The Department has a varied range of research interests, linked loosely around a theme of exploring what makes health services effective. Within that there is a focus of several different projects on a range of specific topics:

• Mental health issues in general practice
• Valid measurement of outcome of treatment of mental disorders
• Psychological aspects of physical health
• Effective education of mental health professionals
• Schizophrenia, its impact and its treatment
