Introducing Health Impact Assessment
This practical two-day workshop aims to introduce participants to health and wellbeing impact assessment (HIA). HIA is a process that aids decision-making by predicting the potential effects of policies, programmes and projects on health, wellbeing and health inequalities. Participants are introduced to the theory and methods of HIA using the New Zealand Guide to HIA developed by the Public Health Advisory Committee. Case studies of completed HIAs are presented and critiqued. Participants are given the opportunity to apply the Guide to scenarios based on real situations. Consideration of health equity underpins the training. The workshop draws on the experience of the participants and the extensive national and international experience of the teaching staff.

- policy-makers, analysts, planners or advisors in any central or local government agency
- advocates for communities

Advanced Health Impact Assessment
This practical two-day workshop aims to advance participants' existing knowledge and skill in Health Impact Assessment (HIA). The workshop draws on the experience of the participants and provides opportunity to reflect on their own practice and knowledge. It explores in more depth issues such as what constitutes evidence, effective methods for assessment, creating a common language for working across sectors, how to keep a sharp focus on addressing health inequalities, and understanding how values drive HIA. The workshop will involve the participants in exploring these concepts and processes in a range of learning styles including small group work, presentations, and learning exercises.
