Master of Public Health

The Master of Public Health (MPH) programme was introduced in 1991.

Candidates for the degree of Master of Public Health (MPH) will have completed the Post Graduate Diploma in Public Health or an equivalent qualification at an acceptable level of attainment.

The MPH is a one year full-time equivalent course and will comprise either a thesis or a dissertation and two papers, including DPH papers not already completed to gain that qualification. One of the papers may be substituted, with the approval of the Faculty, from another degree programme.

Those interested in MPH study should contact their nearest Department of Public Health/Preventive and Social Medicine for further information and an enrolment form. Enrolments for the thesis option may be accepted at any time.

Entry to the MPH will depend on available teaching and supervisory resources, and on prior performance. The University of Otago expects a good B grade average in the DPH for entry to the MPH.

Faculty of Public Health Medicine registrars may be eligible for early entry to the MPH in order to meet the Faculty of Public Health Medicine training requirements to start the thesis or dissertation in the first year of their training. Such candidates must have achieved a standard satisfactory to the Board of the Faculty of Medicine in the papers taken in the first semester of the DPH. More...
